Step into Stella Guan\u2019s home, and you\u2019ll feel like you\u2019re in an interior design museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guan, a creative entrepreneur and multidisciplinary designer, has a distinct, fresh design philosophy that sidesteps traditional principles. With her strong creative vision, she founded Path Unbound<\/a>, a design school that helps people transition their careers into design fields. She also launched her own furniture brand, Bezier Home, which focuses on mid-century modern statement furniture. She utilizes her adventurous design instincts both at work and at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guan chose her Los Angeles home because of its bright windows, skylights, and high ceilings, and she has filled it with a treasure trove of eye-catching items. \u201cEvery furniture item in my space has to be uniquely shaped,\u201d she shares. This gives the home a maximalist feel\u2014every piece is an accent piece. Nothing falls into the background. \u201cI know this style is not for everyone and to some people, it may be too much,\u201d she says. \u201cBut since it brings so much joy to me, I decided to go in this direction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s hard not to feel joyful when in the midst of primary colors, bold patterns, and whimsical shapes. And, when you know the history of Guan\u2019s furniture pieces, the space is all the more compelling. \u201cSomeone who visited once said this feels like a mini furniture museum and I didn\u2019t realize that! I guess it\u2019s true. I have many furniture items that you can read about in books,\u201d she reveals. This includes an Ettore Sottsass<\/a> wavy mirror, first released in 1970 and experiencing an Instagram-fueled revival in recent years. It\u2019s a neon-lit, strawberry-pink prize for both design aficionados and vintage collectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When renting her location, Guan hopes creatives will feel a grooviness that inspires them. \u201cI hope people feel like they are in some kind of dreamland when they are in my space,\u201d she says. Since she exclusively focuses on furniture with interesting curves, her home has dynamic, psychedelic energy to it. Harnessing that energy, small product shoots and edgy portrait photographers will find a lot to work with in this spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I hope people feel like they are in some kind of dreamland when they are in my space. A few guests commented that they think my space is very psychedelic. I never thought of it that way but now that they\u2019ve mentioned it, I see it! All of my items have curves, even down to the art that I picked for the wall.”<\/p>\nStella Guan<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

How does the designer herself like to spend time in the home? \u201cI actually love reading design books in my space,\u201d Guan shares. \u201cI always come here to relax when I am exhausted from my work in my office and need a small break.\u201d Her curvy, chrome, mid-century magazine rack is full of design books and resources. Her home is not just<\/em> a furniture museum\u2014it\u2019s a library too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
