The beautiful thing about art is that it is far from static. It is progressing. Always. And not only is art progressing, but it also pulls us both to it and right along with it.
What is it about a painting or a photograph that draws you in? How does a song bring you to tears? Because art moves us. All of us. In one way or another. There is a deep connection between the human spirit and the creativity. We have a unique passion to express ourselves like virtually no other creature in the universe. Not to get too “arty,” but that is pretty amazing when you realize how unique we are as humans. We are all so wonderfully the same, yet we all also each hold vibrantly unique perspectives and individual experiences and perceptions of the world around us. Therefore, we create.
One of the most important things we can do as creatives is to take ourselves a little less seriously.
It’s easy to get competitive in the creative world. I totally get it. But what if we started viewing others in our field as potential collaborators more than competitors? As sources of valuable knowledge and opportunities for growth rather than as threats to our confidence in our own abilities. The fact is, we are all in different stages of the journey and we all have a lot more to learn. I simply want to encourage all of us, as cliché as it may sound, to embrace our own individuality as well as the uniqueness of others, and find refreshment and inspiration in the fact that we are all equally qualified to create.
Keep up the good work everybody, happy to be a part of this with you all.
